Finally Say Goodbye to your Razor

January 11, 2017

One of the upsides to this colder weather, and the layers we begin to pile on this time of year, is that we don’t need to worry as much about shaving and keeping up with the tedious task of hair removal. But, it’s also an opportunity to get rid of unwanted hair permanently so that when we do bust out the tank tops and bathing suits again, we aren’t burdened with regular shaving and the skin irritation that can come along with it.

How’s It Work?

You need to refrain from tweezing, waxing for at least 6 weeks before treatment (so stop that now if you want to get started this winter!). You can shave the day before or the day of a treatment.

At Newtown MediSpa, our Lumenis Light Sheer laser treats all skin types from fair to dark skinned of all ethnic origins. The laser works by passing through the skin and is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle, destroying the bulb from future growth, and permanently reducing hair growth in the area you are treating.

Wait...isn’t this the same as electrolysis?

No. It is definitely not the same as electrolysis. But I do get asked that question often! So here’s the deal. The major difference is that electrolysis can only treat one hair follicle at a time and works by putting small needle into the hair follicle in order to destroy it with electrical current. Electrolysis can be used on all skin and hair color combinations, and laser hair removal only works on darker hair.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments depend on your hair growth cycles and how dense the hair growth is in the first place. I know, I know. That’s not really an answer, but it’s the truth because everyone is different. If you need a ballpark idea of how many treatments it may take, I can tell you that most people I see take about 6 - 8 treatments for removal of almost all of their hair and then they need to come in on occasional for a touch up.

Amount of time between treatments?

The time between treatments is also dependent on the person and the hair growth cycle. But, if you need a really general ballpark idea of what kind of time commitment this will be I can tell you that it can be about 4 - 6 weeks between treatments.

Can I do this on my lunch break?

Yep! There is no real downtime from this treatment. If you are treating your upper lip, there may be some minimal redness and you may want to wait until the end of your day or a day off to take care of that area, but other than that, you’d have no problem popping in for a session and heading back to your day.

Ideal areas for treatment?

Pretty much any area that you have unwanted hair is ideal for laser hair removal, with a few exceptions. We have a full list of the areas we treat and information on our packages here.

How much does it cost?

We offer an affordable monthly membership starting at only $69 per month. To learn more about our Laser Hair Removal club, click here.
