Topless Woman

If you're bothered by the fullness beneath your chin, then Kybella® might be the solution your looking for. This nonsurgical option is great for women and men who want to slim down this common trouble spot. As many of us know, you can be in great shape and still have a double chin, and just a little bit of extra fat in this area can make you look older and heavier. Kybella injections target this stubborn fat, streamlining the neck and jawline for a slimmer, younger appearance.

Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells in the treatment area under the chin to improve your profile. Since April 2015, Kybella has been revolutionizing the world of nonsurgical cosmetic treatments, and many in the cosmetic industry are hailing it as the biggest innovation since Botox.

At Newtown MediSpa, one of our first priorities is patient education, allowing you to know everything about available treatments, products and how they can help you achieve your goals. This allows you to make an informed decision regarding your treatment. Learn more about our patient education mission in our Being Botox Smart Blog article.

About Kybella

The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections and treatments will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.

Before your Kybella treatment, and during your complimentary consultation, a thorough assessment and medical history will be completed to determine if Kybella is the best treatment for you. Together, you and provider will go over the Kybella side effects you need to be aware of, including:

  • Bruising

  • Swelling

  • Discomfort

  • Hardness in treatment area

  • Redness

More serious, however rare, side effects can include:

  • Trouble swallowing

  • Nerve injury causing weakening of facial muscles

Of course, we recommend that you seek immediate care if you experience any of these rare side-effects and notify your provider at Newtown MediSpa.

Before and After Kybella

Choosing the Right Practice

Our practice has achieved Diamond status from Allergan, the maker of Botox, Juvederm, and Kybella products, ranking us in the 79th (Top 100) of providers nationwide, which is based on the volume of Allergan products used. This means our injectors have an extremely high level of experience using these products, and that we have earned a reputation as a trusted provider.

Facial aesthetics is truly an art. Your provider needs more than the educational knowledge of how to inject. They need the artistic ability to know where to inject. As a result, your treatment will not only be delivered by some of the most skilled practitioners around, it will also be done in a soothing and safe environment, where patients come first.

Our mission is to strive for the highest level of integrity for our patients to make well-informed decisions about their treatments, with safety and superior outcome as our first priority. Click here to read more about our patient education mission Being Botox Smart.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the appointment?

Kybella injections can be completed in as little as 15-20 minutes and can literally be done on your lunch break.

How does Kybella® work?

Kybella is comprised of deoxycholic acid, which breaks down and absorbs dietary fat. When Kybella shots are injected into subcutaneous fat, the underlying fat cells are destroyed and cannot rejuvenate.

Does it hurt?

Patients can experience bruising and soreness immediately after the treatment and up to 7-10 days post-injection. At Newtown MediSpa, we apply a topical numbing cream to make the treatment more comfortable for you.

How many treatments will I need?

Your provider will help you determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal treatment goals. Up to 6 treatments may be administered, spaced no less than a month apart.

What can I expect after Kybella?

After Kybella treatment, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin. Be sure to inform your healthcare professional if you develop an uneven smile, facial muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing or injection site problems such as bruising, hair loss, open sores (ulcers), and damage and tissue cell-death (necrosis) around the injection site. Call your provider if you develop open sores or drainage from the treatment area.

What are the most common side-effects of Kybella?

Swelling, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area. Don't hesitate to contact Newtown MediSpa to speak to your provider if you have any concerns.

How long will Kybella last?

Kybella will eliminate a lot of your fat cells under your chin but you still have to maintain a healthy weight to keep remaining fat cells in the area from expanding. As always we recommend a healthy exercise and diet regime to make your results last longer.
